Micky
After ten years of loving his family, Micky was surrendered to be euthanized.
When his body started breaking down, his medical needs were left to pile up — and then he was dropped at Houston BARC to die. An old man, neglected, and dumped after a lifetime of devotion. But Micky never got the memo that he was supposed to give up.
We saw his post through @madtotherescue. @dizzydoganimalrescue worked out his exit plan, a Good Samaritan stepped up, and @chelsstreee pulled him from the shelter and got him to us. Little Light Rescue is proud to foster Micky in partnership with @dizzydoganimalrescue while he heals.
What he came in with → where he is now
He arrived heartworm positive, with severe flea-allergy dermatitis (raw skin, missing hair), eyelashes growing inward and clouding his vision, and bloody, infected ears.
Look at him now: his coat has grown back nearly 100%, his eyes are clearing, he’s beginning heartworm treatment, and surgery will soon fix those inward lashes for good. He’s thriving with the whole household.
His personality
Micky coos like a baby, curls into your arms, and looks at you like you’re his entire world. The moment we knew he’d be okay? He crawled into a lap, let out one big sigh, and took his first real nap. And now — for the first time in his life — this old man is finally getting to be a puppy: zooming around, tossing toys, letting out ten years of energy he never got to spend. After everyone who failed him, Micky still chose to trust. That’s the whole reason we do this.
Micky’s future
This sweet senior is likely to spend his golden years right here with Little Light Rescue — and we’d be more than okay with that. For the right, senior-loving home a special match could be considered through our partner @dizzydoganimalrescue; otherwise, Micky has a soft place to land with us for life.
